Overview

Polyvine Heavy Duty Extreme Varnish is a water-based polyurethane varnish, ideal for use on interior wood including worktops, doors and furniture and exterior concrete paving, unglazed tiles slate, brick and flagstones. It's formulated with advance resin technology that brings the highest protection from a single pack varnish ever developed. It offers stain, water, heat, abrasion and chemical resistance as well as UV filter protection and biocides to protect against mildew, mould and fungus.

Preparation

Ensure the surface to be coated is clean and free from grease

  • Lightly sand wooden surfaces with 80/120 grit for vertical, 60/80 grit for horizontal surfaces.
  • Remove any moss, mould, lichen and carbon deposits with a sprayer or specially designed cleaner and stiff brush.
  • Fungus, pollen or spores not removed and trapped below the clear varnish will discolour the surface of the timber when exposed to moisture.
  • New or bare wood should be lightly sanded and cleaned with white spirit.
  • Previously varnished surfaces if in sound condition, clean down to remove dirt, grease, oil and wax polish. If the existing varnish is in poor condition, remove it completely.
  • Remove any poorly adhering or defective varnish by scraping back to a firm edge.
  • Fill all joints, Cracks, and nail holes with a good quality Polyurethane or acrylic prior to coating.

Application

Always try the varnish on a test patch before embarking on the project to ensure you are happy with the finished results.

  • Stir well before use.
  • Apply using a brush, roller or sprayer.
  • Apply 3 coats in total allowing a minimum of 2 hours between each coat.
  • On porous surfaces dilute the first coat with 10% water
  • Leave 16 hours for the finish to sure.

Aftercare & Storage

Maintenance

Inspect yearly for signs of wear and damage, a maintenance coat should be applied every 1-3 years on exposed areas and 3-4 years on less exposed or sheltered areas.
