Overview
Sikkens Rubbol Primer Plus is a premium quality, solvent based primer/undercoat for use on exterior timber. Suitable as an undercoat over previously coated surfaces, or primed metals and hard plastics. The excellent opacity and adhesion provides a perfect surfaces for Rubbol opaque coatings.

Preparation
Always ensure the surface to be treated is clean, dry and free from any dust, algae, fungi or moss.
- Resinous deposits should be removed with a scraper.
- Degrease the surface with a lint free cloth and suitable solvent, allow to evaporate fully before applying Sikkens.
- For previously painted or worn wood use a fine sandpaper of 240 grit work in the direction of to abrade the surface the grain remove any loose paint.
- Dust down entire surface.
- Fill any cracks, holes or chips, always use a filler designed for timber.
- The moisture content of the timber must not exceed 18% for exterior or 14% for interior timber.
Please Note
New Timber : Where a superficial application of preservative to softwood and hardwood is deemed necessary, such as timbers in Durability Class 3 or lower, use Cuprinol Wood Preserver Clear (BP). For Class 4 (in ground contact) and 5 (marine) use pre-treated wood specific for these conditions. Preservative pre-treatments must be fully dry before the application of Rubbol Primer Plus. Do not use on substrates which have had water-repellent preservative pre-treatments applied.
Application
Before applying stir the product thoroughly and test a small area to ensure colour and adhesion. Colours can vary dependant on surface to be treated.
- Do not apply when there is the risk of rain or when temperatures are below 5°C or above 30°C.
- Protect from frost and rain until dry.
- Always ensure product is fully mixed before and during application to ensure consistency in colour and sheen.
- Do not thin.
- For best results use a good quality, long-haired, soft bristle brush.
- The product should be applied in a full flowing coat, laying off in the direction of the grain, using the minimum number of brushstrokes necessary to produce an acceptable finish.
- Avoid over brushing.
- Apply 1 coats.
- Allow 18 hours before applying a top coat.
- On new wood were possible the first coat should be applied all round prior to fixing.
- Pay special attention to areas of exposed grain, tops and bottoms of doors and undersides of cills.
